MARKHAM, ONT. — This month the Daily Commercial News (DCN) celebrates its 98th anniversary delivering news and project intelligence to the construction industry.
Back on Nov. 8, 1927, the paper announced its new name, switching from the Daily Journal of Commerce and Construction News to the Daily Commercial News and Building Record. The tag line in the masthead of that first front page under its new moniker proclaimed, “All the building news, every building day.” That promise has held true straight through to the current digital age of publications.
In two years the DCN will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and it is with thanks the current staff not just acknowledges but also celebrates the hard work of the leaders and news teams who have helped build it to the definitive news source for construction in Canada.
With each wave of evolution and change, from technology to owners to the publication and construction industries themselves, the DCN has remained the steadfast and reliable source of industry news and project data. How fitting that in two years, Canada’s Centre Block, the main building of Parliament in Ottawa will also celebrate its 100th anniversary. Both the DCN and Centre Block have been the meeting point where critical discussions, debates and decisions are made and announced for their respective stakeholders.
And, as we have reported in the past, Centre Block has undergone renovations to meet future needs while the DCN has evolved to meet its readers’ needs as well, from launching Ontario’s first daily, digital edition to creating an award-winning podcast and building the largest resource of industry news nationwide through its websites to help everyone in the construction chain, from the tools to the boardroom.
