REGINA — Statistics Canada’s recently released building permit numbers report a 29.9 per cent year-over-year increase for Saskatchewan in March 2026 compared to March 2025, meaning the province places third among the provinces for growth in this category.
Building permits also saw month-over-month growth in March 2026, up 26.1 per cent from February 2026. This also ranked third in the country.
The total value of building permits represents the dollar value of construction permits for residential and non-residential buildings and is an important indicator of construction activity and demand for raw materials and employment, explains a release.
Statistics Canada’s latest GDP numbers indicate the province’s 2025 real GDP reached an all-time high of $85.4 billion. This was an increase of 2.2 per cent, putting the province well above the national average of 1.6 per cent.Â
Private capital investment in Saskatchewan increased last year by 12 per cent to $13.6 billion, ranking first among provinces, the release adds.Â
