METRO VANCOUCER — Metro Vancouver’s new has launched and is being touted as an interactive tool that provides an overview of the region’s housing market and the people it impacts.
“As our region continues to grow, access to reliable housing data is more important than ever,” said Metro Vancouver board chair Mike Hurley in a statement. “The Housing Data Dashboard brings critical information together in one place, making it easier for planners, decision-makers and the public to understand trends, identify challenges and take informed action to improve housing outcomes across the region.”
Key points from the latest housing data include:
- New housing supply continues to trend towards higher density, with apartments making up most housing starts and completions across the region.
- While housing starts have declined in recent years, housing completions reached a record high in 2025 as projects that launched earlier in the development cycle were completed.
- With rental vacancy rates reaching 3.7 per cent in 2025, the highest level in the past decade, pressure on rents eased across the region, contributing to a slower pace of rent growth compared to recent years.
The dashboard replaces Metro Vancouver’s Housing Data Book, which has been published since 2009.
The new dashboard’s “enhanced accessibility supports more informed decision-making by local governments, researchers, industry, and community partners, and helps advance key priorities in , including improving housing affordability, increasing supply, and aligning growth with regional planning objectives,” the release notes.
Metro Vancouver has co-ordinated regional planning since 1967.
